First One Up

It’s 40 degrees outside a chilly 57 degrees inside. You are the first one up. You will get a fire going to warm things and fix the morning coffee.

You wonder what it will be like when winter does arrive.

You are thankful for what you have…food, shelter, clothing. To a wealthy man, you are poor…in the eyes of a homeless man, you are wealthy.

You smile as the room begins to warm…the first sip of coffee tastes good.

It is the beginning of another day and you are here to see it. Morning light is beginning in the east and soon the sun will help bring warmth to the day. You smile…it’s not so bad being the first one up.

This is a day that the Lord has made and for food, shelter and clothing you are content. You, of all, are the wealthiest…you have found peace within.

Forgetting the Past

The past isn’t usually full of all the right choices. Some decisions made become a haunt in the years ahead, chaining us as a slave to the past. Breaking those chains of bondage can take most of a lifetime.

I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running and I’m not turning back.
